First of all, mothers who breastfeed can protect their babies from bacterial and viral infections. Once the babies get humans milk by breastfeeding, it helps them to fight against infections in the first few months of their life (Inch, 2011). This is because breast milk contain antibodies that give protection to the babies against illnesses such as tummy bugs, ear infections, colds and others. Snow (1989) adds that "breast-fed infants are more resistant to infections and communicable diseases that bottle-fed infants". Babies, who are small and defenceless, need suitable nutrients that can give them antibodies in order to protect them. So, breastfeeding is very important for infants as it can increase their resistance to a variety of intestinal microorganisms before their own immune system become mature enough to become the shield against diseases. Babies who get formula milk without breastfeeding are exposing to bacteria when the bottles or nipples are not properly cleaned. Bacteria can reproduce in short time especially if milk is left in the hot weather. Therefore it will damage their intestines and cause allergies. Figure 1 shows condition baby's intestine affected by damage milk.
